Being Healthy is a STATE OF MIND!

Being healthy is a state of mind and a state of being. It's about eating right and exercise. So being healthy and staying that way is a way of life for me.

Weight problems run in my family. Around 8 years ago I was overweight and weighed 45-50 pounds heavier than now. It got to a point in my clothes wearing size 18 was not going to be my lifestyle anymore! It started simply for me. I started by walking at lunch time everyday for 30 minutes at a place in Kearny Mesa where it had a big hill to walk. The next step was joining a gym and signing with a fitness trainer. He was great and taught me how to use machines, illustrated what exercises work different muscles and suggested the kinds of foods to eat. After a year, I could not afford the fitness trainer anymore but did not forget the lesson learned.

Working out makes me feel good and it was MY TIME where I could think about life's problems, devote time to make myself healthier and be by myself.

In addition to exercise, I am eating healthier foods. There are many products that are lower in fat and sugar that taste great! You can take just about anything nowadays and make it lower in fat and healthier. Also drink lots of water, eat fruit, salads, grains and best of all be creative!
Exercise! Even if is walking for 20 minutes every other day, at least you are moving your body and you will feel better!

My brother, who ran the the LA Marathon in 2005, was a huge motivation for me to get me into running and to decide to train for the 2006 Rock-n-Roll Marathon for 2006. I had never done anything like this before! To make this happen for me involved reading about how to start running and how to get the right shoes, be safe and utilize proper methods to run better. The Rock-n-Roll event turned out to be an incredible experience for me, as my brother came down from LA to join my efforts. I still run to this day, except I do 1/2 marathons instead of full ones.
The next adventure was deciding to do triathlons. Talk about using your full body, and I'm in my 40s! The training of swimming, biking and running takes some time, but once you do one, you'll love it!

Health to me is just getting out there and doing what you love! Walking, running, volleyball, softball, walking with your dog, whatever. Doesn't matter what it is, just do it and feel good about it. It really has changed my life and it helps that I have a boyfriend who is extremely supportive in what I do to be healthy and does things to be healthy as well. It all about making little changes and having support in what you do. It can be done!

The most important point is to be healthy because YOU want to. You want to make a change, you want to be around for a life full of things you enjoy - family, friends, job, etc. If you try to be healthy because of someone else and you are not into it, it won't happen. Believe in yourself, believe you can do it, believe you are a good person in the process of trying to live a good life the best way you know how. It is all possible and it is a constant work-in-progress. If you eat something bad, so what? Just get back to what you were doing. We all deserve a day of not exercising and eating stuff that is not the best for us. If you eat well and work hard all week, you deserve a break, right? Just keep trying and believe me, you will feel better physically and mentally for it. http://www.bestfrenchfacial.moonfruit.com/#/storiespg11/4531226690
